Smoking is 90% habitual and the smoking habit is rooted in the subconscious mind. The conscious mind can want to quit, but as long as the subconscious mind still wants to smoke it can feel very hard to do so.

The use of patches and other nicotine replacement products can often be counter productive because they aren’t treating the root cause of the habit.
